Police and Badging
Aviation Security
This division ensures MSP's compliance with federal, state and local regulations and investigates suspicious activity and security violations. The division is responsible for the Secured Area Access Control System, which regulates the use of over 17,000 airport ID badges.
Compliance officers conduct vulnerability assessments, taking action to ensure compliance and facilitate improvements. They work closely with airport tenants on safety and security issues and also coordinate Operation SCAN, a program that provides cash rewards to airport employees who properly challenge plainclothes officers entering secured areas without displayed ID. Cash awards are also given for reporting suspicious persons or activities affecting secured areas that result in police apprehension.
The support sergeant coordinates projects such as compliance with federal directives on fingerprinting and security badges. The compliance administrator, a civilian position, assists with the access control system and ensures compliance of vendors, contractors and the MAC.
