msp 2020 environmental assessment

Based on an updated MSP Long Term Comprehensive Plan, approved in July 2010, in September 2010 airport staff began preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) covering anticipated development needs at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport through the year 2020. The resulting document will be referred to as the MSP 2020 Improvements EA.

The EA process is in compliance with both the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Minnesota Environmental Policy Act and is guided by the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) policies and procedures for considering environmental impacts: FAA Order 5050.4B, “National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Implementing Instructions for Airport Actions” and FAA Order 1050.1E, “Environmental Impacts, Policies and Procedures.”

An important step in the process is to develop alternatives to meet anticipated future passenger and operations levels. Forecasts developed and updated in May 2011 established passenger and operations levels through the planning period. These forecasts consider recent economic conditions and changes in the industry since 2009.

Another essential step in the process is informing the public about the proposed plan and potential environmental impacts. In support of that goal, the MAC has conducted several public open houses and posts public meeting presentations here. Please see additional information below.
