A number of improvements to MSP’s driving and parking experience will begin this spring, visible to drivers when they enter Terminal 1’s inbound roadway and head into the parking ramps.

Starting this month, drivers will notice work to replace the landscaping in the areas along the inbound roadway at Terminal 1. Updated digital signage will also be installed in that area. The roadway will always remain open and landscaping work will wrap up in the fall of 2027.

Once inside the parking ramps, you may see overhead work for a parking guidance system – red and green lights atop the driving lanes to indicate available spots – is starting in the public parking levels of the Red, Blue and Silver Ramps. Some temporary closures of parking areas are planned. Similar work on a guidance system at Terminal 2 is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2027.

Also in the ramps, the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), which operates MSP, is installing new electric vehicle (EV) chargers at Terminal 1 and 2. Approximately 50 level 2 EV chargers will be installed on level 8 of the Silver Ramp starting in July and ready to use in September.

And there’s more. This spring, work begins to convert levels two and three of the Red and Blue ramps to public parking spaces. Those levels were previously utilized by rental car companies, which have relocated to the Silver Ramp. Once complete, the renovated area will provide an additional 1,703 parking spaces. The work is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.

Keep an eye out for all the activity on your next visit to Terminal 1.
