Presidents’ Day weekend is the starting point for spring break travel at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), and if you haven’t been here for a while, we have some tips to make your experience enjoyable.
Passenger traffic started to show increases yesterday, Feb. 12, and will be heavier than usual Friday morning as well. We still recommend that passengers arrive at MSP two hours ahead of a domestic departure and three hours ahead of an international flight. Stay in contact with your airline for any updates about your flight.
If you’re planning to park at MSP, you can guarantee a spot with our Prebooked Parking. Use that same page if you’re planning to use the Quick Ride Ramp, which will be reservation-only from Feb. 27 to March 22, in anticipation of spring break parking volume.
If you’re dropping off or picking up, remember the cell phone waiting lots on Post Road, conveniently located for either terminal. MSP’s Terminal 1 is now sporting a FLEX Lane for another drop-off/pick-up option, and Terminal 2 has an Express Lane for the same purpose.
Ahead of your arrival at MSP Airport, you can get MSP RESERVE, which saves you a spot in the TSA security line for your flight. It’s free!
Once inside the terminal with your bags, look for your airline’s kiosk to get a tag for your checked bag.
Remember to check MSP’s website to see the current wait times for security checkpoints, and keep in mind that checkpoint status can change quickly.
The TSA offers several tips for a seamless passage through security. One highlight: avoid cargo pants and stick to joggers with just two pockets to reduce the chance you accidentally bring in prohibitive items.
Need to grab a bite? MSP has countless options for whatever you have in mind. Find your favorites at the Eat, Shop, Relax page. If you’re on a morning flight at Terminal 1 and in the mood for a donut, consider Angel Food Bakery on Concourse E or Dunkin on the Airport Mall. You can find other baked goods at Starbucks and Caribou locations.
Thirsty? Bring your favorite empty water bottle and fill up at one of MSP’s water-filling stations.
Special performances abound over spring break!
After you pass security, make sure to look for entertainment. The Airport Foundation MSP and Arts@MSP have a long list of performances, including "Pet duets," which feature a musician alongside an MSP animal ambassador to spread the joy. View the full performance schedule.
Enjoy your spring break travels!
