Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is set for the Thanksgiving travel rush, which is expected to be influenced this year by some of the lingering effects of the government shutdown.
Whatever the latest news brings to the aviation industry, MSP staff will be going above and beyond to help your trip go smoothly.
- The government shutdown: If you’ve booked a flight around the Thanksgiving holiday, you are likely already watching for word from your airline on the flight status. MSP has seen some flights delayed or cancelled in recent days. By the week of Thanksgiving, that could change again. MSP is grateful for the federal workforce serving the airport and continuing to provide services to passengers.
- Top travel days: MSP typically starts to see passenger numbers increase the weekend before the Thanksgiving holiday. Thursday, Nov. 20 is expected to see the start of increased passenger traffic, continuing through Monday, Dec. 1.
- New at MSP: Our FLEX Lane at Terminal 1 aims to expedite your pick-ups and drop-offs of passengers. Watch this video to see how to utilize the lane. And remember that Terminal 2 has an Express Lane with the same purpose.
- Remember the cell phone waiting lot on Post Road, where you can stage before swooping in for your well-timed pick-up.
- Prebook your parking: If you’re leaving your car at MSP, consider prebooking your parking spot. It’s convenient, fast and guarantees you a spot when you arrive.
- MSP Reserve: Did you know you can reserve a spot in the TSA security line, free of charge? Learn more.
- Once you’re inside, consider seeking out one of the performances taking place at MSP, or visit one of MSP’s numerous art installations.
- Coffee with a Cop: Join officers from the MSP Airport Police Department on Wednesday, Nov. 26, the day before Thanksgiving, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the MSP Airport Mall at Terminal 1 for the latest session of Coffee with a Cop. The information event helps build relationships one cup at a time.

The best plan for passengers is to stay in close touch with your airline regarding flight status as your departure date nears.
Wishing you all safe and happy travels!
