The MAC’s buildout of the MSP Public Safety and Operations Center recently hit a high point in the three-year construction project that began in April of 2024. Vertical construction was officially completed on June 30.

A traditional “topping out” celebration was held to mark the building’s progress. The MAC joined crews with Morcon Construction, H+U Construction and others associated with the project to sign the final beam. Steel workers then raised it for final placement in the three-story, 159,000-square-foot structure. Work now will focus on the building’s roof, walls, and the full buildout of the interior.

The new center is the second phase of a larger safety and security project located adjacent to MSP’s air traffic control tower. The new building will connect to the airport’s Fire Station 2, which was completed last summer.

The Public Safety and Operations Center allows for the future co-location of the MSP Airport Police Department, Emergency Communications Center, Airside Operations and other teams, which now operate across multiple locations on the airport campus. The unified airport teams will have technology and systems for improved awareness of day-to-day airport activities or emergency events and can collaborate more effectively in a new emergency operations center for strategic response and communications.

The project is expected to be substantially completed in the second quarter of 2027.
