Pay: $27.00/hr. - $33.00/hr.
The Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic at MSP is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing all ground support equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and on-time airline operations. This role supports a high-volume, year-round operation, including severe winter conditions, and plays a critical part in minimizing equipment downtime on the ramp.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on ground support equipment, including belt loaders, pushback tractors, baggage tugs, ground power units (GPUs), lavatory and water service trucks, and company vehicles
- Diagnose and repair diesel, gasoline, hybrid, and electric-powered equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- Perform engine diagnostics, brake repairs, transmission work, and hydraulic system repairs
- Respond promptly to airfield service calls to reduce operational delays
- Ensure equipment is compliant with OSHA, EPA, TSA, airport authority, and company safety standards
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work orders in a timely manner
- Support winter operations, including snow removal equipment and cold-weather reliability checks
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and ramp work environment
- Assist with equipment audits and lifecycle planning
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- High school diploma or GED required; technical school certification preferred
- 2+ years of experience in heavy equipment, fleet, diesel, automotive, or GSE maintenance
- Strong knowledge of diesel and gas engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and battery-powered equipment
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals and electrical schematics
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must be able to obtain and maintain MSP airport badge clearance
- Adaptability in high-volume and severe weather operations, including extreme cold and snow
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks
- Willingness to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operationally required.
